A man who put his life up for auction on eBay found it wasn’t worth quite as much as he thought when he settled for around A$100,000 (48,000 pounds) less than his target price.

The fact that his life was up for sale on ebay might have reduced its value considerably, one would think..!

London’s flamboyant mayor Boris Johnson is fuming after police took possession of a cigar case he removed from the looted home of former Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz shortly after the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

So finally something the US goverment can call a ‘weapon of mass destruction’

After years of speculation that Pope Benedict wears shoes by Prada, the Vatican’s official newspaper denied such talk as “frivolous”. The reason could be because the pope probably isnt supposed to wear brands common to him and the devil… if you know what i mean..!

The Solitary Cottage June 26, 2008

Filed under: Its My Life — shoebredevil @ 8:40 pm

I have always been a fan of poems and have written quite a few myself, on a recent trip to my native city the sight outside my train compartment inspired me. The large grasslands, the rivers and the valleys reminded me of the beauty that nature possesses, and led me to compose this poem which i hope you will appreciate.

The Solitary Cottage

Upon the seams of the endless horizon,

A solitary cottage lay,

Long disowned,

It survives in the dew of the inevitable day .

Once a haven for men it seemed,

Bathed in the light of the rising sun its aged windows beamed.

Battles long fought had ruined the vicinity,

Ripped its soul and torn its beauty.

Untouched but, the cottage stood,

Hard on its ground as firm as it could.

Now the gaze of the morning sun fell upon the cottage,

Its sheen largely shed,

‘Refugee Relief Camp’, a plank strewn aside read.

Whether it has any bearing on Monday’s crunch Euro 2008 match between the two countries is debatable but Austria drew first blood on Sunday when their topless women’s soccer team beat Germany 10-5. How much would you bet on the fact that the german ladies weren’t straight..??!!

Austrians despairing at their team’s Euro 2008 exit can seek solace in a mock documentary charting their stunning title victory. Maybe that’ll give their future generations some inspiration, no not to play better football but to make movies about stuff thats never going to happen.

Maybe he was trying to beat the heat. A Brooklyn restaurant cook was accused of stealing frozen lobster tails by stuffing them down his pants. Someone tell him there are other ways to beat the heat, like NOT stuffing a sharp animal limb down your pants, your manhood could be stake for god sakes..!!

Football : A first hand experience June 17, 2008

Filed under: Its My Life — shoebredevil @ 5:10 pm

Summer holidays are not all about lazing around the house, doing nothing. Its a time to take a break from a very hectic college life. So this weekend I decided to join my friends for a game of football ( soccer as the americans call it.. ).

Holidays dont exactly mean you wake up at the break of dawn, but apparantly if you dont get to a football field soon enough it’ll probably be exploited as a cricket ground ( any indian can tell you how ). So the day started unusually early, atleast for me, the ride to the ground was less than 10 minutes and when i got there i got the first of the many reality checks i was going to get, it wasnt the kind of pitch i was expecting, no goal posts, no touchlines, hardly any grass on it. But i consoled myself by thinking of all the great players who mustve started their careers on pitches not very different from this one. I also had to console my feet because i wasnt wearing soccer boots, but then again, i thought of all those great players all over again.

The match started with 8 men on each side, and like a warrior i marched to the striker’s position.. only to be dwarfed by two huge well built guys who looked like they wanted some kind of revenge against me, i had to remind them throughout the match that we were on the same team. The first goal somewhat flatters my finishing skills as i slotted the ball towards the left of the advancing keeper ( my college buddy.. not so much at the end of the match though..!!) after a careless defensive error. I had scored on my ‘debut’, and was beaming with pride. The other two strikers though were visibly unimpressed, not team players clearly, and that translated into me not seeing the ball at all for the remainder of the match, which involved me tackled by my own teammate and then substituted. The match ended 3-2 in my team’s favour and I congratulated myself my assuming my goal to be the decisive one..!!

As wierd as my first competitive match was, it was also fun. And now here I am blogging about it, body aching, feet bruised, but also feeling a quiet sense of self-satisfaction. All i need now is a good pair of soccer shoes and a lot more stamina, to enjoy the game even more and also teach those two thickskulls a lesson..!!

Friday 13th not more unlucky, study shows June 13, 2008

Dutch statisticians have established that Friday 13th, a date regarded in many countries as inauspicious, is actually safer than an average Friday. In the last two years, Dutch insurers received reports of an average 7,800 traffic accidents each Friday, the CVS study said. But the average figure when the 13th fell on a Friday was just 7,500. This would make some feel a false sense of security, but the lower number is because fewer people get out of their houses in the first place.!! In addition, a research showed that the hospital admissions on Friday 13th had not just increased slightly, but had increased by a staggering 52%!

Those who don’t believe in this superstition may dismiss the statistics, but the people who do remain wary of the day and agree that bad luck is bound to follow them.

It seems the ex United striker is working on a plan to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United’s coach although he hasnt bothered getting any of the relevant qualifications. He, in his own words, wants to introduce a way of playing football which has never been played before. We hope it doesnt involve kicking fans from the opponent team though…
